Our Wines
We come from two famous wine territories – South Australia and the South Island, New Zealand
We have a combined winemaking experience that extends around the world.
We have come home to make wines that we want to drink and share.
We’ve uncovered a small parcel hiding in our library.
Drinking beautifully right now — and an absolute steal.
Sourced solely from Lapis Lazuli, high on the Bendigo Terrace. This north-west facing vineyard sits on degraded schist layered with wind-blown loess, producing tiny berries with incredible concentration and depth.
Hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed. Fermented in both stainless steel and oak, then left on lees to build weight and texture. A delicious, generous wine to crack open with friends or pair with a BBQ chook.
Very limited — won’t last long.
Very limited release of some library stock.
This has been one of my all time favourtie wines to make and drink since starting Scout, its in a really great drinking spot. Only 6 × 6 packs available.
The Southern Valleys lie at the base of the Wither Hills in Marlborough, and possess the highest content of clay in the soil, making the area perfectly suited to perfumed Pinot Noir. The grapes for this wine was sourced from the certified organic Yarrum Vineyard. It is the neighbouring vineyard to the Tilly Vineyard, where we sourced our fruit from previously.
A mix of clone 5 and 777, the grapes were handpicked, and fermented with 30% whole bunches, During ferment, the wine was only pumped over twice per day, and never plunged. We did this to try and capture what we feel is the strong suit of Southern Valleys Pinot which is the floral, perfumed aromatics. The use of whole bunch was to help accentuate this. Once pressed after 28 days on skins, we aged it in old barriques, again to help maintain the beautiful lifted aromatics.
We feel that this wine shows a different side to Marlborough Pinot, in essence steering away from the regional norm which is to push ripeness and extraction in order to make consumer friendly wines. We feel the unique qualities of the Southern Valleys fruit may get lost in this style and so have tried to promote them here.
A pure, unbridled expression of Central Otago Pinot Noir — vibrant, structured, and deeply rooted in place.
This wine comes from the Muirkirk Vineyard on Felton Road, in the heart of Bannockburn. The site is a patchwork of wind-blown loess, silty clay, and dense clay-loam over layers of schist and quartz gravels — a classic Bannockburn soil profile that offers both power and precision. These soils lend natural concentration, fine tannin structure, and a deep sense of minerality to the wine.
Hand-picked Clone 5 Pinot Noir was wild fermented with 30% whole bunch. Ferments were gently worked — pumped over and only lightly plunged — to preserve finesse and avoid over-extraction. After 30 days on skins, the wine was pressed and matured in French oak barrels (10% new) to add subtle depth without overshadowing the vineyard character.
Bright, energetic and focused, with silky tannins and a long, mineral finish. A wine that speaks clearly of Bannockburn and the soils of Muirkirk.
The 2024 Scout Pinot Gris is sourced from both the Lowburn and Bendigo subregions of Central Otago
The cool Lowbrun vineyard produced slow ripening fruit that developed deep flavour on the vine, while the warmer Bendigo site brings about a generosity in the wine.
The fruit hand harvested at optimal balance of sugar, acidity and flavour. In the winery, we took a very hands off approach, gently pressing the grapes before allowing wild ferment over the next 5 months in old, large format barrels. This gives great richness and texture without any oak flavour, and enhances the baked pear, and jasmine florals in the wine. A small portion of the fruit was crushed and fermented on skins for 2 weeks, like a red wine. Once blended back in, this gave the finished wine a hint of ginger and spice.
The cool climate has given us a richer, textural iteration of Scout Pinot Gris this vintage.
A wine for contemplation and salty food.
Sourced from two elevated Central Otago sites. One in Bendigo, grown on weathered schist soils at 350m altitude. The other from the famed Packspur Vineyard in Lowburn, where sand loams interspersed with quartz gravels sit at 400m. Together, they bring both power and precision.
Hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed to French barriques (15% new). Wild fermented, with 85% malolactic fermentation completed. Bottled July 2025.
The nose shows white nectarine and grapefruit layered with almond milk. Followed by Finely structured, citrus and stone fruit. Hints of almond, nougat and cool schist. Lees contact has brought richness, backed up with subtle oak spice. A taut minerality keeps the wine precise.
Pinot Noir x Pinot Gris. This is the wine you want to be drinking this summer!
Two varieties not often blended together, but have resulted in a bright, light, crunchy delicious red wine. Our ode to Beaujolais!
This wine is sourced from two vineyards in Central Otago. Carefully selcted from Bannockburn and Lowburn, the components of this wine were allowed to undergo spontaneous carbonic maceration over 7-14 days. After this time, the grapes were foot stomped and finished ferment on skins. Once pressed, it was aged in old oak for 6 months before bottling in September.
Serve slightly chilled.
We don’t always make a Riesling — but when the fruit speaks, we listen. The 2024 Scout Riesling is a vibrant, expressive wine inspired by Sarah’s time in Germany and crafted with a light touch to let the site shine.
Hand-picked from the famed Packspur Vineyard in Lowburn, this fruit comes from a site close to our hearts. Sitting at approximately 400m above sea level on the western slopes of the Cromwell Basin, at the base of the Pisa Range, it's one of the coolest vineyard sites in the region. The elevation and aspect help preserve beautiful natural acidity, giving the wine its signature drive and tension.
Pressed gently and fermented slowly (wild yeast) in stainless steel, the wine was made with minimal intervention and is unfined (vegan friendly).
A precise and pure expression of site, season, and style.
